ICES program and the 2026 Medical Brigade

This year the Dot House Health medical brigade was again accompanied by the team from our ICES program addressing domestic violence with support and guidance from Dr. Luz Lopez of Boston University’s School of Social Work and family psychologists Lyn Styczinski and Len Greenberg. During their visit the team concluded a seminar with psychology, social work and nursing students at the local campus of the National Autonomous University following a 5-week on line seminar conducted over the second semester of 2025. We also conducted a training seminar for nurses, doctors and community leaders in the town of San Nicolas which is the municipal center for the municipality of the same name. A BU bilingual Spanish speaking MSW student participated and contributed in these sessions.

The group also accompanied the Dot House Health medical brigade to 5 local rural communities where on average the doctors from Boston referred 15 to 20 individuals or families in each community for assessment by the ICES team due to difficult situations at home or with their children. A total of 120 families were identified for receiving follow up from the ICES team after the brigade.
